Mr. Johnston joined Desert Lion Energy in September 2016 as president and chief executive officer. Previously, Mr. Johnston held the role of project management and transactional analysis specialist for the global lithium business at Hatch, a global engineering consulting firm headquartered in Canada. During his time with Hatch, he evaluated over 200 lithium projects and managed the development of lithium projects around the world for SQM, Rockwood Lithium (Albemarle), Bacanora Minerals, AMG-NV, Rio Tinto, Galaxy Resources and other key developers. Mr. Johnston is a chartered professional engineer (CPEng) and CFA charterholder, and holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Queensland.
Mr. Coetzee joined Desert Lion Energy in June 2018 as Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Coetzee joined Desert Lion from Navachab Gold Mine (QKR), previously owned by Anglo Gold Ashanti, where he held the role of Managing Director and General Manager and was responsible for all aspects of the operation, including overseeing the mine’s growth plan, plant expansion, stakeholder management and all onsite activities. Prior to Navachab Gold Mine, Mr. Coetzee held progressively senior roles at Rössing Uranium Mine (Namibia), Ghana Manganese Company, (Ghana), and the Skorpion Zinc Mine (Namibia). Mr. Coetzee served as Vice-President and President of the Namibian Chamber of Mines from 2015 to 2018 and holds a National Diploma in Chemical Engineering from Cape Technicon in Cape Town, South Africa, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Maastricht School of Management in Holland.
Mike Venter joined Desert Lion Energy in November 2017 as Vice President, Exploration. Mr. Venter has over 25 years of experience in minerals exploration and project valuation and has significant work experience in critical materials (tantalum/niobium/lithium/tin/graphite) and in particular LCT (lithium, cesium, tantalum) type pegmatites. Mr. holds a BSc (Hons) in Geology and Geochemistry from the University of Cape Town, and he is a registered Professional Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat) with South African Council of Natural and Scientific Professions (SACNASP), a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) and a member of the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA).
Mr. Bozoki is a dual Canadian and U.S. CPA with approximately 25 years of accounting, tax, and corporate finance experience. Mr. Bozoki has served as Chief Financial Officer of several TSX and TSX-Venture listed companies involved in mining projects. He has extensive experience operating in Africa. Mr. Bozoki began his career at Ernst & Young LLP where he spent six years in the mining audit practice. Mr. Bozoki has an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business and a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University.
Mr. Mushimba was born in Windhoek, the Capital of the Republic of Namibia. In 1979 Mr. Mushimba and his family left for Angola before going to Zambia and ultimately Germany. Upon returning to Namibia in 1990, Thomas completed secondary school at DHPS and an apprenticeship as a Clearing and Forwarding Agent at Kuehne and Nagel. Thomas serves as a director in Namibia, assisting with logistics and management of government and social relations.
Mr. McCague is a senior business and legal advisor with more than 12 years of experience in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other strategic alliances. He has been instrumental in founding, acquiring, financing and restructuring numerous companies in the junior resources sector. Mr. McCague holds an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School and formerly practiced corporate and securities law at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP in Toronto.
